Multimedia Systems Department
Gdańsk University of Technology
The Multimedia Systems Department has a number of facilities at its disposal for both research and educational purposes. These facilities include:
- Two laboratories with standard complements of equipment for conducting acoustical experiments;
- A professional recording studio, presently being upgraded to include state-of-the-art analog and digital equipment, for use in recordings;
- ISDN transmissions, WWW broadcasts and research;
- An editing/pre-mastering suite;
- A MIDI programming studio;
- Networked PC and UNIX laboratories;
- Microprocessor development systems.
Students of Multimedia Systems Department can become members of the AES Student Section. The section, very active in the Department, organizes research meetings, workshops and contacts with other institutions related to the sound engineering in Poland and abroad. The staff of the Multimedia Systems Department is very active in variety of domestic and international acoustic organizations, including AES, Polish Acoustic Society and others. They also become authors of papers published in renowned journals, including JAES, IEEE and others.
Perspectives
Graduates of our program are uniquely qualified for a variety of positions and can be found in firms and studios in every geographic area. Thanks to the thorough background, which our students receive in electronics, telecommunications, acoustics and sound or video engineering, our department is represented in virtually all of the important Polish sound-related firms. Those include a wide variety of companies from Polish National Television, Polish National Radio, Radio Gdańsk, Young Digital Poland multimedia firm, to popular music groups, academies and universities, both in Poland and abroad, to successful freelance engineers. Our graduates are practicing managers, equipment designers, system designers, technicians, researchers, recording engineers, sound reinforcement engineers, maintenance engineers and more.
